General Buying

How buying a new or used vehicle works at Stellantis Richards Bay — from first enquiry to driving off the floor.

You need a valid South African ID or passport, proof of residence (not older than three months), and your driver's licence. If you're financing the vehicle you'll also need your last three months' bank statements, your latest three payslips (or six months of statements if you're self-employed), and proof of income. For cash purchases the bank's FICA requirements still apply — bring the ID and proof of address documents above. If you're trading in, also bring your current vehicle's registration papers, finance settlement letter (if applicable) and a spare key. Get in touch before you visit and we'll confirm exactly what you need for your situation.

Yes — test drives are free and available on every model we sell, new or used. Book through our contact page, give us a call, or message us on WhatsApp and we'll set up a time that suits you. We recommend booking ahead so the specific model and variant you want is on site, prepped and ready when you arrive. Bring your driver's licence with you. If you can't get to Richards Bay easily, ask about extended test drives — for serious buyers we can sometimes arrange a longer drive so you can properly feel how the car handles on the routes you actually use.

Yes — we take trade-ins on any make or model, not just the brands we sell. Your trade-in value goes straight off the purchase price of your next vehicle, which often reduces the deposit you need or the amount you finance. You can bring the car in for a physical valuation, or send us photos and details first for an indicative quote. We handle the paperwork including any outstanding finance settlement on your behalf. See our trade-in process for more detail on how it works and what to bring.

We assess your vehicle on five things: market demand, mileage, age, mechanical and cosmetic condition, and service history. Our team uses TransUnion Auto data and current market activity to anchor the valuation, then a physical inspection adjusts up or down based on what we actually see. Bring the car in with a full service history if possible — a documented service book often adds real value. We'll give you a written quote on the day, valid for seven days. If you owe finance on the car, we settle it directly with the bank so you don't have to.

Yes — we deliver across KwaZulu-Natal and to other provinces. Within KZN (Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Empangeni, Ballito, Newcastle) delivery is often included or charged at a small flat fee. For deliveries further afield we use insured car-carrier transport and the cost depends on distance. Most deliveries happen within five to seven working days of finance and paperwork being finalised. Your vehicle arrives valeted, fueled and ready to drive, with all documents handed over on the day. Contact us with your delivery address and we'll quote the exact cost and timing.

Six steps. One — you enquire by phone, WhatsApp or through the site about a specific vehicle. Two — we book you a test drive and discuss budget, trade-in and finance needs. Three — we run a finance application with your chosen bank (usually approved within 24 to 48 hours) or confirm your cash terms. Four — we agree the final deal including any trade-in. Five — paperwork is signed, the vehicle is prepped and licensed. Six — you collect, or we deliver. Start to finish typically runs three to seven working days depending on finance turnaround. Mostly, yes. You can browse our new and used stock online, request a quote, submit your finance application and sign most documents electronically. The two things that still need to happen in person are FICA verification (most banks require an in-person check) and the final handover when you collect or take delivery. For buyers outside Richards Bay we can arrange a video walkaround of the specific vehicle, courier paperwork where allowed, and deliver to your door. We'll always be transparent about which steps need a physical presence so there are no surprises.

We accept cash deals via EFT — not physical cash. Banking regulations and FICA rules mean any payment over a certain threshold has to be traceable through the banking system, so a vehicle purchase is paid by electronic transfer from your bank to ours. The funds need to reflect in our account before the vehicle leaves the dealership. Cash buyers often negotiate better positions on price because there's no finance commission involved. Bring your standard FICA documents (ID, proof of address) and we'll structure the deal directly with you. Get in touch to discuss a cash purchase.

A new vehicle gives you the full manufacturer warranty, a service plan (where included), zero kilometres, the latest tech and full choice of colour and spec. A used vehicle costs less upfront, takes the new-car depreciation hit out of your hands, and many of ours still carry the balance of the original manufacturer warranty. Used buyers also get a wider range of premium models for the same budget. New vehicles are listed under new-vehicles, and our used stock with full history checks is at used-vehicles. The right choice depends on budget, how long you plan to keep the car, and whether you want the newest tech.

From walking in to driving off, typically three to seven working days. The biggest variable is finance — bank approval usually comes back in 24 to 48 hours, but verification, FICA checks and final document signing add another day or two. Vehicle prep, licensing and number plates take a further day. Cash deals can complete in 48 hours if all documents are in order. If you're trading in a financed vehicle, allow extra time for the settlement letter from your current bank. Tell us when you need the car by and we'll work backwards to hit that date.
