Jeep FAQs

Common questions about Jeep.

Specifics on warranties, parts, servicing and resale — drawn from what our customers ask most.

A new Jeep in South Africa typically comes with a 5-year or 100,000km warranty (whichever comes first), with roadside assistance included for the same period. Most models also include a service plan — the exact length varies by model and trim, but 5-year or 100,000km plans are common on the higher-spec derivatives. The warranty covers the engine, gearbox, drivetrain (including the 4x4 system on the Wrangler, Gladiator and Grand Cherokee), electronics and bodywork. Confirm specific warranty and service plan terms for the model you're considering when you visit — promotional offers sometimes extend cover. Browse current Jeep stock or contact us.

Yes — particularly the Wrangler and Gladiator Rubicon. The Wrangler is purpose-built for serious off-road work: solid axles front and rear, removable doors and roof, electronic locking differentials on Rubicon, and the proven Pentastar V6. It handles SA bush, dunes and 4x4 trails comfortably. The Gladiator brings that same Trail-Rated hardware to a double-cab pickup with a usable load bed. The Grand Cherokee combines on-road comfort with genuine off-road capability — low range, hill descent and multiple terrain modes — and the seven-seat Grand Cherokee L adds a third row without losing the 4x4 underpinnings. Match the model to the terrain you actually drive.

Here at Stellantis Richards Bay — we're the authorised Jeep dealer and workshop for the northern KZN region. We have factory-trained Jeep technicians, genuine Jeep parts in stock, and the specific diagnostic equipment for Jeep's drivetrain and electronics systems. Servicing at an authorised Jeep dealer keeps your warranty and service plan valid. There are additional authorised Jeep workshops in Durban and Pietermaritzburg for owners further south. We service Jeeps regardless of where the vehicle was originally bought. For off-road owners we can also advise on wear items that take more punishment than highway use predicts. Book a service.

The Wrangler is honest about being a serious off-roader, not a fuel-economy champion. Expect real-world consumption of around 11 to 14 litres per 100km depending on engine choice, transmission, tyres and driving style. The 3.6 V6 Pentastar petrol is the volume engine in SA and sits in the 11 to 13 range on mixed driving; highway-only is closer to 9 to 10. Fitting aggressive off-road tyres, roof racks or aftermarket accessories pushes consumption up. If fuel economy matters more than outright trail capability, the Grand Cherokee — particularly the 4xe plug-in hybrid where available — is the more efficient choice in the range. If capability is the priority, the Wrangler's consumption is the trade-off you accept.

The Gladiator is the only open-air pickup on the market and it's a genuine workhorse, not a styling exercise. It's built on Wrangler underpinnings with a steel load bed, so you get Trail-Rated 4x4 capability plus practical payload and a braked towing capacity that handles a typical boat, off-road trailer or horsebox comfortably — confirm the exact figures for the derivative you're looking at, as they vary by spec. The 3.6 V6 Pentastar petrol drives all four wheels through low range with a locking rear diff on Rubicon. It's the Jeep for owners who want weekday utility and weekend trails in one vehicle. All three are serious off-road players but with different philosophies. Jeep — particularly the Wrangler — is the most purpose-built for technical off-road: solid axles, lockers, articulation. The Toyota Land Cruiser 76/79 series and Hilux are bulletproof workhorses with the best parts availability in remote SA areas, and the best resale. The Ford Ranger and Everest are excellent all-rounders with strong on-road comfort and modern tech. For technical 4x4 trails the Wrangler edges ahead; for long-distance overlanding the Land Cruiser is hard to beat; for daily-driver-meets-weekend the Grand Cherokee or Everest sit in similar territory. Choose based on what you actually drive most.

The Grand Cherokee holds value reasonably well in SA — typically 50 to 55 percent retained after three years and 60,000km, with higher trims (Limited, Overland, Trailhawk) holding stronger than entry derivatives. Demand for premium American SUVs is steady, particularly in coastal and Highveld markets. Petrol V6 variants resell faster than the larger V8s due to fuel cost concerns from second-hand buyers. A full service history at authorised Jeep workshops is essential for top resale — gaps in the book hurt the price meaningfully. The latest-generation Grand Cherokee with the more refined interior and tech is establishing strong demand. Browse current Jeep stock.

Globally Jeep has the 4xe plug-in hybrid range on the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, combining electric range with full off-road capability. In South Africa the hybrid line-up is rolling out gradually — confirmed availability and pricing varies by model year. Some derivatives are already in the country, others are under evaluation as Stellantis SA gauges demand and infrastructure. If a Jeep hybrid is specifically what you want, contact us and we'll confirm what's currently in stock or available to order, and what's planned for the next 6 to 12 months. The mainstream Jeep range in SA remains petrol-powered for now.
